Common Employer Mistakes

As you can imagine, in the last 14 years, I’ve seen a lot of employers make those all-too-familiar mistakes, and these blunders can seriously hinder the efforts to be a people-focused business and end up driving teams away faster than you can say “employee turnover”! 🤦‍♂️

🚫 Common Employer Mistakes:

1️⃣ Ignoring Employee Feedback: Some companies I’ve worked with just couldn’t be bothered to listen to their people. Newsflash: Employee feedback is GOLD! So, let’s ditch the indifference and start actively seeking and acting upon those ideas and concerns.

2️⃣ Lack of Recognition and Appreciation: Picture this – employees putting in blood, sweat, and tears (sometimes quite literally), and all they get in return is crickets. No “thank you”, no high-five, nothing! Trust me, a little appreciation goes a long way. You need to start celebrating team wins, big and small!

3️⃣ Overlooking Life-Work Balance: Let’s play a game called “How to Burn Out Your Employees in 5 Easy Steps.” Step 1: Ignore their personal lives. Step 2: Demand they work 24/7. Step 3: Watch them crumble under pressure. Don’t be that employer! Balance is the key to a happy and motivated team.

4️⃣ Failing to Provide Growth Opportunities: You know what’s a great way to drive top talent away? Offer zero opportunities for growth and development. Seriously, you must invest in your people, help them flourish, and watch your company thrive!

5️⃣ Inadequate Communication Channels: Ah, the infamous “radio silence” strategy. Some companies I’ve seen act like secret agents, keeping their employees in the dark. Here’s a newsflash: Open and transparent communication builds trust and loyalty. So, let’s get those channels buzzing, shall we?

If you’re reading this and making these cringe-worthy mistakes, it’s time to change! We’ve got the power to create a people-focused culture where employees feel valued, inspired, and empowered to do their best work — one filled with success stories of happy and engaged employees! 💪🌟
